About Us

Knights of Columbus - Charity

Knights of Columbus Emblem

From the moment of our founding in 1882, charity has been the first principle of the Knights of Columbus. We are men of faith and men of action. Last year alone, in addition to raising and donating more than $151 million to charitable needs and projects, Knights volunteered more than 69 million hours of their time to charitable causes. We undertake these acts of charity because we see those in need through the eyes of faith. Moreover, in the Knights of Columbus, we approach these acts of charity together. Pope Benedict XVI calls this the "practice of love...as a community."

Our charitable activities encompass an almost infinite variety of local, national and international projects. From international charitable partnerships with Special Olympics, the Global Wheelchair Mission and Habitat for Humanity to our own Food for Families and Coats for Kids projects and other purely local charities, the opportunity to work together with fellow Knights and their families is virtually endless.

About Our Council

Knights of Columbus Council #12480 Logo

The Knights of Columbus Council 12480 can work wonders; in fact, with its many programs, it can help change the community, town, city or neighborhood in which we live. However, programs such as the St. Valentine's Dinner and Dance start with a simple idea. With organized planning, we find ways on how this and many other organized events can benefit our specific local communities needs through charity, unity, fraternity, or patriotism. The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic, family, fraternal, service organization. This theme permeates the entire Service Program; all Church, community, council, family, pro-life, and youth activities.

About the Event

Society of St. Vincent De Paul Emblem

Our local and surrounding communities are served in various ways by the St. Valentine's Dinner and Dance Charity Event. Our goal this year is to entertain over 500 attendees. This fundraiser provides ways for other local charity organizations such as St. Vincent De Paul to directly participate in our teams of volunteers and fellowship services. Last year, we were able to present a check for $500.00 payable to the Society of St. Vincent De Paul in Frisco. This year more than ever we need to strive to help the needy and also help alleviate some of their distress by aiding organizations like St. Vincent De Paul work to help correct conditions that cause these problems.

We also provide community service hours for teens and adults while in a safe environment. We can only accept about 10 teenage volunteers that each can earn up to 5 hours of community service.

About the Volunteers

As Christian adults, we have a moral and legal responsibility and are entrusted by God with the spiritual, emotional and physical well being of minors and vulnerable adults as they participate in activities within or sponsored by our Diocese. It is our responsibility and commitment to provide an environment which is safe and nurturing.

In order to achieve the above, the diocese has a Safe Environment Program that implements training, screening, background checks and other procedures that are designed to reduce the risk of sexual abuse of children and vulnerable adults. Every parish, school and Diocesan agency has the program and each is responsible for program implementation and continuation.
